American strong ale is a broad category used to describe ales of 7.0% ABV or higher. Beers in this category may be classified as double India Pale Ales, barley wines, or old ale depending on the style. If bottle conditioned and stored properly, strong ales can improve for several years, in some cases eventually obtaining sherry-like notes.
In California, you know the abundant sunshine is going to produce ripe grapes every year. So while we don't have as much vintage to vintage variation as areas that aren't blessed with our climate, there are still subtle differences between vintage years. For this tasting, we have selected all Cabernets from a single vintage year, 2009, so you can compare different wines that were all created with the same weather conditions so you can see the difference other factors make in the taste of the wine.

Zinfandel is a wine varietal truly made famous by California. Planted in over 10 percent of all Californian vineyards, the Zinfandel grape is an important player in the California red wine industry, creating a big, ripe red wine that can come with some of the highest alcohol content of any red wine on the market (up to 17 percent). Due to the hot sun of California, many Zinfandels have come to be known for their jammy, fruity characteristics.
Breweries use adjuncts during the brewing process to impart flavors that don't normally occur in unflavored beer. The most popular adjuncts are coffee and cocoa, but some breweries take things a step further. This weekend we have put together a flight featuring different styles of flavored beer.
