Petite Sirah is not a more "petite" version of Syrah, it's a distinct grape variety. Petite Sirah was created by botanist Francois Durif in Montpellier, France around 1880. The grape is a cross between Syrah and the even more rare: Peloursin. It's loved for its extraordinary deep color and full-bodied flavors of blueberry, chocolate, plums and black pepper.
Picture yourself eating a handful of red raspberries, drinking a glass of fresh squeezed lemonade, or sipping on a glass of fine wine. Those sour, tart, and acidic flavors you are currently imagining are what make sour beer taste quite different from traditional beers. These flavors, which are unique to sour beers, are the product of time and the right mix of microorganisms. This weekend we will have some of the best examples of aged sours from our library.

This weekend's tasting flight is a "vertical", showcasing their Anniversary Ale each year from all the way back to their 2011 release through their 2014 vintage.

For such a geographically small country, Belgium sports quite an impressive number of beer styles - and delicious ones at that! Belgian beers are primarily ales with a heavy emphasis on malts and a lot of fruity yeast flavors. These styles are so popular that many American craft brewers have adopted them as their own. This week's tasting features four Belgian style ales made by craft breweries in the United States.
